The Dominance of Dragons

Overlapping with the emergence of the undead and necromancers, was the emergence of dragons as powers in the world. Despite being outnumbered thousands of times over, they found many of the smaller races could not challenge their might. Even the smaller being’s recently discovered magical abilities did not hinder the dragons from taking over large swathes of land. Some of the dragons left the inhabitants to their own doings while others were benevolent in their rule. Most of them, however, were cruel and ruled those beneath them with iron firsts. It seemed inevitable that dragons would rule the entire world without opposition.

But many of the races were given pride and self belief that would not allow them to be controlled so easily. Rebellions sprung up across the continent, and while many of them were quickly shot down a few were successful. This lead to alliances between various dragons in order to keep their own domains and ensure their continued leadership. Many of the dragons remained in power for centuries as they continued to take away the freedoms of their underlings.

Eventually the seeds of rebellion formed once more as leaders of the various races secretely met. They knew that divided they could not defeat the mighty beasts, but if they combined their various skills they could free themselves. Goliaths, humans, dwarves and elves soon spread the word among the others. They launched sudden attacks agains the great wyrms and took them down one by one. Great battles ensued as death and destruction were widespread. But eventually most of the dragons were killed or driven into hiding and the humanoid races regained their power on Ardhmur.
